How can I make my printer work with out being wired to my desktop?

I have a router already. How can I print and scan to my printer without having to have it cabled to the desktop?How can I make my printer work with out being wired to my desktop?

the printer has to be network ready, or you need to buy a network printer adapter that plugs into the usb cable.
Your printer needs to be wireless enabled. There can be also some wireless adapters out there that can convert your regular printer into wireless printer, yet I think would be cheaper and better to buy a wireless printer anyway.
