How hard is it to add a printer into a network?

I just started a new job and wan to know if it's too much trouble to add a printer in my cubical? I have a lot of printing and copying to do and every time when I send something out, I need to print a copy for my filing. I work with 7 co-workers and we all share the same printer. This is time consuming for me to wait for the printer to be free. I'm planning to buy my own printer for personal use. Do you think it will be too much trouble for me to ask tech guy to help me set up a printer? Is it hard or time consuming to add a printer into a network? How hard is it to add a printer into a network?
Well,if it's just for your use on your computer, you really don't have to put it on the network. Just have him connect it directly to your computer, it will be set up as a local printer. How hard is it to add a printer into a network?
If you have enough time it is fairly easy to set things up. If the computers at your job are already on the same network / behind the same router, follow this guide:

When I set up printer sharing I had to click start %26gt; right click my computer %26gt; and put all of the computers in my network the same Work Group Name (and also follow the steps in the guide.)

Hiring someone isn't really required, it should only take about an hour or so.
If you plug a printer frome home, directly into your work PC, there's no problem at all. But you can also share that printer with other co-workers, with Network Print Sharing. Best thing to do is to suggest to your boss buy a lower scale printer that people can use just for internal work, or simple reports, while the main one can be used for more important things.
Piece of cake.

go to Start menu, control panel and printers, choose install new printer.

The printer should come with a CD that will walk you through everything and then it'll install the printer software and configure you PC to use it, it'll have you do a printer test to make sure everything works.

If it says it detected that you are on a network and would you like to share the printer on the network, just say no - you want your printer local, just for your PC.

If the disk is just the software and no walk-thru then:

To add the printer Just add the printer like you would at home, turn on everything or if you didn't power off too hook the printer into you PC in your cube, make note of the port you plugged the printer into; go to: the control panel like above and windows should find your printer and if it doesn't then manually plug in the port and load the printer software(called a printer driver).

You company may have a policy that your tech dept do the job because it is there PC and a bad printer install can send a dirty electrical surge to the PC and fry it. It would only take the techie about 10 minutes to get you up and using the new printer.

Good luck!
Run add hardware wizard.
First, as you are a new employee, check with your boss. Depending on the company you work for, they may not even allow it. Workgroup/network printers can make images of documents for corporate security purposes. They dont want you printing out company secrets behind closed doors (cubical walls).

If the boss approves, like others say, its easy to do (assuming you have admin privleges to add new hardware in the first place). Your tech guy can do it in 5 minutes if you dont.
