Hi.
The printer is a NETWORK HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-in-One Printer, the modem/router is a DSL 2wire with 4 ethernet ports and a USB one, and finally, I use a Mac with OS 10.6 and a Windows XP Pro PC.
All my ethernet ports are occupied, but the USB is free and I need the printer (which also has a USB outlet) in the network. I saw this done in someones office a couple of years ago (and I can not ask them), so I know its possible. But I do not seem to be able to make it work. The computers are not detecting the printer when connected through the USB port (it works if through ethernet).
Does anybody know how to achieve this?
Thanks a lot. :-)How do I set up a network printer through the USB port in my 2wire cable-modem / wireless router?
From what I've heard, the router USB port is usually for networking hard/flash drives, but not printers. Since you cannot set it up like T-Bar suggested, you could get a small network hub to add to your existing router and network which will add additional network/ethernet ports that you can use to connect more network devices like your printer. They come in various sizes from a few ports and up to 16 I think. Here is a link for a smal one:

Hook it thru the USB port on the main computer. Then selet SHARING and give it a name. Go to any other computer on the network and select the 'Printer wizard' and choose ';Add a new printer. Select Network Printer. The browser will appear and you should see the network printer. Click on it. Press enter. That's it.
