How do i make a wireless network?

I have 3 external hard drives, a desktop and several notebooks. I'm wanting to make the external hard drives accessible from my notebooks on a wireless network. The OS range from Windows XP to Windows 7. The drives are connected to the desktop which stays on most of the time. How would i get them all to work and be online within a wireless network? Also how would i set up a printer to work via wireless? Desktop is Windows Vista Premium, Main notebook is Windows 7. Wireless network is password protected. How do i make a wireless network?
Ok so make the main unit with the externals a server. Use the network setup wizard on what will be the main rig and follow the instructions. Maker sure that your files are shared and you can access anything you choose from the main rig as long as it's on. Your router will do all the work for you really and you'll be able to surf independently from the desktop if it's off. When you need to see crap from the desktop than turn it on in look under ';my network locations'; and find all your shared stuff. It's a simple home network and windows has made it painfully easy to do.

Mine works like this: My main PC has loads of movies and files that I want to watch from the pc in the bedroom. It sends it over the wireless router into the secondary pc thus streaming any info I need when I want it.
