How come my printer will print in color fine but when i want it to print in black it prints grayscale? How come my printer will print in color fine but when i want it to print in black it prints grayscale?
Did you check your printer settings? Are you sure you have black ink? Sometimes if you run out of black ink it uses the colors and the output looks grayscale.

How hard is it to add a printer into a network?

I just started a new job and wan to know if it's too much trouble to add a printer in my cubical? I have a lot of printing and copying to do and every time when I send something out, I need to print a copy for my filing. I work with 7 co-workers and we all share the same printer. This is time consuming for me to wait for the printer to be free. I'm planning to buy my own printer for personal use. Do you think it will be too much trouble for me to ask tech guy to help me set up a printer? Is it hard or time consuming to add a printer into a network? How hard is it to add a printer into a network?
Well,if it's just for your use on your computer, you really don't have to put it on the network. Just have him connect it directly to your computer, it will be set up as a local printer. How hard is it to add a printer into a network?
If you have enough time it is fairly easy to set things up. If the computers at your job are already on the same network / behind the same router, follow this guide:

http://www.pctoday.com/Editorial/article鈥?/a>

When I set up printer sharing I had to click start %26gt; right click my computer %26gt; and put all of the computers in my network the same Work Group Name (and also follow the steps in the guide.)

Hiring someone isn't really required, it should only take about an hour or so.
If you plug a printer frome home, directly into your work PC, there's no problem at all. But you can also share that printer with other co-workers, with Network Print Sharing. Best thing to do is to suggest to your boss buy a lower scale printer that people can use just for internal work, or simple reports, while the main one can be used for more important things.
Piece of cake.

go to Start menu, control panel and printers, choose install new printer.

The printer should come with a CD that will walk you through everything and then it'll install the printer software and configure you PC to use it, it'll have you do a printer test to make sure everything works.

If it says it detected that you are on a network and would you like to share the printer on the network, just say no - you want your printer local, just for your PC.

If the disk is just the software and no walk-thru then:

To add the printer Just add the printer like you would at home, turn on everything or if you didn't power off too hook the printer into you PC in your cube, make note of the port you plugged the printer into; go to: the control panel like above and windows should find your printer and if it doesn't then manually plug in the port and load the printer software(called a printer driver).

You company may have a policy that your tech dept do the job because it is there PC and a bad printer install can send a dirty electrical surge to the PC and fry it. It would only take the techie about 10 minutes to get you up and using the new printer.

Good luck!
Run add hardware wizard.
First, as you are a new employee, check with your boss. Depending on the company you work for, they may not even allow it. Workgroup/network printers can make images of documents for corporate security purposes. They dont want you printing out company secrets behind closed doors (cubical walls).

If the boss approves, like others say, its easy to do (assuming you have admin privleges to add new hardware in the first place). Your tech guy can do it in 5 minutes if you dont.

How do I add another compatible printer to my Gateway?

I have an HP all-in-one printer and I want to add another printer that takes cheaper ink.

But I want to keep the HP hooked up too for scanning and making copies. I do not use the fax.

I use Windows XP and am on cable setup for internet. How do I add another compatible printer to my Gateway?
You can have as many printers as you can physically connect.

I have 9 printers here.

Most are networked... but my ';print server'; has 4 printers connected to it.

When you have multiple printers... you must declare one as the DEFAULT PRINTER.

But other than that... you should be able to PICK AND CHOOSE... based on the selection you make when you select ';PRINT';.

The only solution (that seems to work) is to download Network Magic. Make sure that you have file and print sharing enabled on the desktop
I hate to admit this, but I had the exact same problem with a client of mine. I am certainly not a novice at this, and I was unable to get the Vista computer to work with the shared printer on the XP computer. I spent quite a bit of time on that problem.

I will be very interested to see if someone else here found a solution to this.

How do I add a printer to a wireless network?

We have 2 computers, a desktop (Dell running XP) and a laptop (Compaq running Vista). The HP deskjet printer is currently attached to the desktop. How can I get it so I can print from the laptop over the wireless network. I have a Netgear router. I tried using the sharing options on Windows, but it lets me choose the printer, but nothing ever prints. Help? How do I add a printer to a wireless network?
The typical way to share a printer between multiple computers on a small wireless network is to connect the printer to one of the computers, and then enable it to be shared across the network. The major problem with this method, however, is that the host computer for the printer must be turned on and configured correctly for other computers to be able to print. Even when this is the case, however, glitches tend to happen in the network or the host computer’s operating system that make wireless network printing unreliable at best. Fortunately, there is a better way to share a printer, by using a device known as a wireless print server. This device can make nearly any USB printer wireless and reliably available to the network.

    Instructions :-

    1.

Obtain a wireless print server that is compatible with both your wireless network and your printer. While the printer’s documentation may not explicitly say that it is compatible with a print sever, many are compatible, and this can be verified by checking the website of the print server’s manufacturer. If you have a multifunction printer, only the print function will work with most wireless print servers, though a few have recently added support for scanning and the printer’s other functions.

    2.

Read all of the documentation that came with the wireless print server. The manual will detail the specifics of the installation routine.

    3.

Connect the printer to the wireless print server via the USB cable. Connect the print server’s AC adapter and turn the unit on.

    4.

Connect an Ethernet cable between the wireless print server and your computer. This will be used for the initial setup only.

    5.

Insert the CD supplied with the print server into your CD-Rom drive. Start the software if it does not start automatically. The application will walk you through the installation process, which includes setting the unit’s IP address, setting an access password, configuring it to connect to the wireless network, installing the drivers that allow the print server to use the printer and installing the print drivers on your computers.

    6.

Choose how your print server will be addressed. Most units are set up to use dynamic addressing by default, which means that your wireless router will assign an IP address to it. This allows the server to be easily installed on the network, but it also means that the IP address of the printer may change over time. The other option is to assign a static IP address to your print server. This option is more reliable, because the print server will always use the same IP address, making it easier for the computers to find the printer and easier to access the print server’s online configuration application. If your router has the IP address of 192.168.0.1, for instance, set the print server to something like 192.168.0.2 or 192.168.0.3, as long as another device does not use that address.

    7.

Set a password to be used to access the unit’s online configuration application.

    8.

Configure the print server to access your wireless network. Give it the same SSID network name as your router and set it to use the same wireless channel. If encryption is used on the router, enable encryption on the print server, and enter the encryption key or password.

    9.

Follow the instructions given by the print server’s software for installing printer drivers on the unit.

    10.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable and allow the unit to connect via the wireless network.

    11.

Install the printing drivers on each computer that will use the printer.

    12.

Access the print server’s online configuration application to verify all settings by entering the IP address of the unit into a web browser, using the “http://192.168.0.2” format. Enter the administrator name and password.

  • How to print to a printer from another computer?

I have a laptop and a desktop, the desktop is hooked up to the printer, it's running windows xp sp2, and is there a way i can print from my laptop to that printer?(laptop is running windows 7 home). I need this because I use the laptop a lot, and I need to print from it wirelessly. How to print to a printer from another computer?
    Steve,

Here's the problem. You didn't give the make and model of your printer, so I don't know if it's capable of wireless printing or not. If you want to print to the printer using your laptop wirelessly, then you'll need to have a wireless router setup to create a small network, and the printer and/or computer that it's connected to, will need to be connected to the router. If going through the computer with the printer to print through the router, then you'll have to setup printer sharing on the desktop and your laptop to allow use of the printer. You'll also have to have the desktop on all the time in order to print from your laptop. If you connect the printer directly to the router, then the printer will be accessible by both computers at any time without having to have one computer on all the time.

So basically you need a wireless router in order to do anything close to what you want. If you have that, then let me know and I can provide more help from there.

Best of luck. How to print to a printer from another computer?
Yes. Go to the printer folder on your desktop and find the printer. Right click and click on sharing. Mark the printer as shared. The icon for the printer will change so that it has a hand underneath it.

Make sure you have run the Network setup wizard on the desktop, otherwise this won't work.

On your laptop, go to your network and search for the desktop machine. When you double-click on the icon for the xp machine, it will show you the shared printer. Double-clicking on that printer will bring up a dialog box about adding the printer to your laptop. Continue.

    Presto. Yay!

(Obviously, whenever you print from your laptop, your desktop will need to be turned ON)
No problem, just be aware that the desktop needs to be on in order for you to print through it. :-)

If you go to ';Printers and faxes'; in the Control Panel on the desktop, and right-click on the printer icon, among the choices you get an option to share the printer on the network - it should be pretty straight forward from there...

Then on the laptop, you choose to add a printer, and select ';Network printer';, it should pop up there, if you shared it correctly on the desktop.
    1) Download a Vista/Win 7 compatable driver for your printer, and install it on your laptop

    2) On the desktop, share the printer on the network.

    3) Add a printer on your laptop, select ';Add a Network, wireless or Bluetooth printer';

    4) on the next screen, select the printer.
You cant print from a computer that is not hooked up to the printer. It depends on if your printer offers the wireless capability. Put the CD that came with the printer into your labtop and download the printing softwear to your labtop
You could try and program your laptop to print with your printer

How can I make my printer work from my wireless network?

My printer is not wireless. I have a wireless setup in my home. Is there any way to make it so that all of my wireless computers can send the printer a signal to print a word or internet document/photo? Thanks! How can I make my printer work from my wireless network?
If you have a printer, you probably have it attached to computer on the network. You can share it with the rest of the network fairly easily.

XP machines should be able to simply Share the printer from the machine it鈥檚 attached to, this way:

    1. Click the Start-%26gt;Control Panel menu item.

    2. Click Printers and Other Hardware.

    3. Click Printers and Faxes.

    4. Click the printer in question.

    5. Click the Printer-%26gt;Sharing menu item.

    6. Click the Share radio button.

    7. Give the printer a name.

    8. Click OK.

If the machine with the printer has Windows XP and the other has Windows Vista (possibly W7 also), you have to do a bit more than that. Try this:

    1. On the XP machine, set the printer to Sharing in the Printers and Faxes dialog box, as detailed above.

    2. On the Vista (W7) machine, get to the Add A Printer dialog.

    3. Click Add a local Printer. (Yes, I know it's not local. Trust me.)

    4. Click the Create a new port radio button. Leave the type of port set to Local Port.

    5. Click the Next button.

    6. In the Port Name text box, enter the printer's name, complete with the other machine's name (e.g. \\Bob's Machine\Bob's Printer).

    7. Click OK.

Hope that helps. How can I make my printer work from my wireless network?
Unless you have Windows 7, you can purchase a wireless print server, but they're rather expensive.

You can read about them here.

    http://compnetworking.about.com/od/wireless/ss/wirelessgear_4.htm
Pre Windows 7 you need a ';print server'; to accomplish that task. Windows 7 has it built in which is a nice feature. So if you're running Vista or XP you need to head to the local electronics store.
I would suggest going for any SOHO Print Server , It may cost $40 - $60.

However it eliminates the headache of having a dedicated Computer turn on just for printing
I try and keep gadget headaches to a minimum. I just connect a printer cable.

Try going into print preferences and there should be an option to print the last page first or what number of the individual pages you want - this is usually under 'Page range' on the print menu page. If you do have a blank sheet as page 2 on the Word document then delete it by putting the cursor on it and press the return button until it has gone. Mine used to do this and then printer that page blank even though I had not written on it - drove me mad. The Word programme puts a new page up when you are near the bottom thinking you need a new page. If you do not need it it has to be deleted by you or Word will save the document as two pages and your printer will print it as a blank page. How do I stop my Hewlett Packard C4200 printer from not using the first page it is given?

You should just be able to open the printers page in control panel and right click on it and select the option to share printer. Then that printer will show up as a shared resource on that computer.

Then on your laptops, you simply go to add printer and try to have it search for the printer over the network. If it finds it, you are good if not you need to manually add it by browsing for it by typing in the computer name.

Okay, I will assume that the desktop is hard wired to the router, if this is the case, you will not be able to share it to the wireless connection. What you need is a wireless printer server. I would recommend that you purchase one that is the same brand as your router for ease of compatibility. The way it will work is... You will plug the USB cable for the printer into the Wireless Printer Server, The Server will connect to your Router via an Ethernet Cable, your Desktop should already be connected to the Router (so no need to do anything there)

Once you have installed the Server on both the Desktop and the Laptop you will be able to print from either computer.

Good Luck, and feel free to update your question, or contact me if you require further assistance.
On your desktop, go to printers and other hardware in your control panel. Right click the printer you want to share, and click sharing. Make sure you are sharing it and you know its name. Then on your laptop, click add a printer in the printers and other hardware folder in your control panel. Click ';next'; select the button that says ';A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer'; click ';next'; click ';browse for a printer'; and then click ';next'; Type in the printer name where it says ';Printer'; and click ';next'; select ';yes'; if you want that printer to be your default printer. Click ';next'; then click ';finish';.

How do i share a printer with another computer?

Hi, i have one computer that has XP on it the other has vista on it. The vista computer has a printer attached to it. Also the vista computer is wired direct to the router. The xp computer is also wired direct to the same router. What steps do i need to take so that the XP computer can share the Vista computers printer?

Id really appreciate your help. Thankyou. How do i share a printer with another computer?
First of all i recommend you to put the printer in the XP Computer. It would be much more easier. Once you have successfully installed the printer software Proceed to these steps.

On the XP Computer go to start, control panel then if you have lots of little icons it all right if you don't change to classic view pressing change to classic view on the left of the screen. When done press printers %26amp;faxes. Right click the printer you want share then press sharing. Give your printer a name or just keep the default name. Then press allow sharing then press ok. When the printers and faxes screen comes up you should see a hand next to the printer that you want to share. Go to vista computer and go to the networking and sharing center. On the left you will see something like view devices on my network. Click on it. Press F5. Your printer should be there if it isnt your computer should be there. If your computer is there double click it and you should see your printer. Press your printer. It might ask you do install drivers. If it does install the drivers. Note:Windows will do this for you. When it is finish wait one minute and cross out of all the windows on your screen. As long as the computer that has the printer plugged in is on its all fine and dandy. When you want to print a document on the printers you should see something like this:

    \\computer name\\printer name

click on that and press print and it will come out in the printer

as long as the xp computer is on and the printer is plugged in and on

Why do printer manufacturers charge ridiculous amounts for ink?

When it is cheaper to buy a new printer WITH the ink included?! I understand its how they make their money, and the sometimes sell printers at a loss, but isn't this a stupid practice? Isnt it urging people to buy new printers, and waste perfectly good machines? Why do printer manufacturers charge ridiculous amounts for ink?
    1) Because most people are stupid and dont work out the math. A number of companies give away ';free'; printers with their computer because the ink is $40 a cartridge, yet these foolish people continuing paying $40 a cartridge rather than switch printers. I even met people who thought they HAD to use a Dell printer with a Dell computer.

    2) Because a stupid American judge ruled that Epson is allowed to program their printers to refuse to accept compatibles. It set a precedent for the other companies. Ever since then, cartridge price for ALL inkjets has gone up and the amount of ink included has gone down. You are now paying over $5,000 a gallon for ink. (Figure it out at $20 per 12 ml) Fortunately, Epson hasn't found similar stupid judges in other countries so there are still some companies making compatibles which work. Try http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp for Epson compatibles which work and sell from $2 to $5.Why do printer manufacturers charge ridiculous amounts for ink?
They do it because most people aren't interested in buying the new machine, or don't realize that its cheaper. They are also able to get away with it, so that's what they do. It started back in the early days when people were only able to afford printers when they were sold at a loss.
Probably, because you have an ink jet printer. The printer it self is cheap but cartridges cost lots of money if you print a lot the best way to use laser printer. It will cost less for every print out.
most printer manufactures sell ink they are not interested in the printer.

One of the Mags did a bit on ink last year as said that ink worked out at 拢133 a liter

In the uk it is better to pay a lot for the printer as you get cheaper ink.

The last new printer I bought was 拢200 but the cartridges are only 拢2.99 each
As head of one of the largest manufacturers in the world ! NOT! i can tell you why i one sentence.. not in any order.!!+ ...my wifes alimony..my new shiny lear jet..my..3 girls who think money grows on trees in the back yard......ok i know i don,t need all the toys i got but ,,hey its the good life oh got off track here sorry,,,first off we only make 300 percent mark up,then the store just makes 100 percent mark up so as you can see the printers an,t realy free ..kind of like selling you flash light ...were do you go when you need more batt ? haha as far as throwing out printers we don.t you do
You are correct -- it's a stupid practice. It's inefficient and certainly bad for the environment. They do it for one reason - to maximize their profits. It's as simple as that. The repeat purchasing of ink cartridges has far greater bottom line implications than the sale of printers.

When you have gone through the initial stages to print the pictures, when the page layout selection comes up at the end go to the menu to the wallet sized pictures. There is a little menu underneath this menu and this asks you how may prints you want - it should be set to one by default. If not, then set it to one. It will then print just one of each of the prints you want, as along as you highlighted the two pictures in the initial opening of the pictures to be copied, and put them both on the same page. You have to use an option called Printer Sharing. On the PC you have to right-click on the printer icon and select the 'sharing' option. Tell it you want to share the printer.

On the laptop, go to add a new printer but when you get the option say it is a shared printer (as opposed to being connected directly to the laptop). It will scan the network and with any luck it will find the printer. It will then install the drivers and you're done!

NOTE this will only work if...

    1. The PC and printer are left ON

    2. Both computers have the same network settings (workgroup name)

    3. Your firewall doesn't block it

Most scanners are USB, some printers are USB as well, but some use a Parallel or 'LPT' port.

Look at what ports you have, and which kind of plugs the scanner and printers seem to use. If something won't hook up - then you may require some adaptors.
Plug one in at a time in the USB port (small rectangle) and if you have windows xp then it should recongnize it and install the software on it's own. After installing the first one then repeat the same steps for the second one.
I hope one or both of them are USB. If not, plug in and install the printer first. Scanners are notorious resource hogs. You should have at least 2 USB ports on the back of your computer. Provided your keyboard and mouse aren't USB, you should be okay. If both the printer and scanner are parallel, you can get a parallel-to-USB adapter and convert one of them, preferably the scanner, to USB. And always restart your computer after installing a piece of hardware so it finds the drivers and accepts the hardware before going on to the next one.

Well, seeing as the printer is wireless, you should get a wireless adapter for your upstairs PC, which should let you print wirelessly and also connect to your internet wirelessly so you can ditch the ethernet cable.

You can get an alright wireless adapter for 拢10 - 20, check on Amazon, i got mine for under 拢10.

Your printer allows you to print from a Bluetooth device, using an optional Kodak USB Bluetooth dongle, which you can purchase from Kodak at www.kodak.com/go/accessories. Bluetooth allows wireless connectivity between compatible electronic devices.

Once installed go to start /settings then printers then on the printer in question right click it and go to sharing and share this printer on the network. But right click my computer/properties then computer name or the like and make sure all computers on the network share the same workgroup . By default MS windows uses the same name. How do I change the default printer on my computer?

I need to change the default printer on my (windows xp home) computer from the nonexistant fax machine to the printer that's actually physically there. I don't have admin privilages on this computer, but all the other accounts have the default printer as, well, the printer, so I know each account has it's own settings, and I don't think this will cause a problem.

The reason why I need to change the printer is because I'm printing online coupons from couponsurfer, and it doesn't give me a chance to select the printer I want to print with, it just goes automatically to the default printer. If there's another way to solve this problem, I'm willing to accept a workaround.

go to start %26gt; control panel %26gt; printers and fax %26gt; then add printer if you have done so.

Then right click and choose default printer on the one
So obvilously you can;t goto Printers folder and right click the printer and Set As Default? So try right clicking the other faxmachine and delete it. And windows will automatically select the remaining printer as default. If this won't work. You need to login under Admin privelages and simply do what I stated above.
    HELLO,

IF YOU ARE NOT SIGNED ON AS AN ADMINISTRATOR I AM NOT SURE IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE CONTROL PANEL. IF YOU DO, YOU OPEN CONTROL PANEL AND CLICK ON PRINTERS AND FAXES ICON. WHEN THAT OPENS THERE SHOULD BE AN ICON FOR ANY AND ALL PRINTERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY OR HAVE IN THE PAST BEEN INSTALLED ON THAT COMPUTER. CLICK ON THE ONE THAT YOU WANT TO USE AS YOUR DEFAULT PRINTER. WHEN IT HIGHLIGHTS, YOU CAN RIGHT CLICK ON IT OR THERE MIGHT BE AN OPTION IN A SUB MENU ON THE LEFT OF YOUR SCREEN THAT SAYS ';SET AS DEFAULT PRINTER';. CLICK ON THAT OPTION. WHEN YOU HAVE DONE THAT, A CHECK MARK SHOULD APPEAR ABOVE THE PRINTER ICON THAT YOU WANT TO USE TO PRINT. ALL THIS WILL ONLY OCCUR IF THE SOFTWARE FOR THE PRINTER THAT YOU WANT TO USE HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON THE COMPUTER. IF THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED, THERE WILL NOT BE AN ICON FOR IT SO THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS WILL NOT APPLY. YOU CAN THEN INSERT THE DISK THAT CAME WITH THE PRINTER, OR IN THE CONTROL PANEL YOU CAN CLICK ON THE ADD NEW HARDWARE OPTION AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL THE PRINTER. GOOD LUCK!

You can get wireless print servers (last I checked ~$100), but from my experience they are all a pretty big pain in the *** to get set-up.

Make sure you check the print server's list of compatible printers to make sure yours is on the list (won't usually be on the box, you will have to find it on the manufacturer's website), if it's not, don't assume it might work...even if there is a similar model on the list

I used to work at Fry's and these things got returned like crazy because people didn't understand how to use them and didn't check the compatibility lists.

Not possible, since she has unrestricted physical access to the printer.

Your options are to either make it a network printer and secure the USB connection, or to seek her supervisor for a remedy. If you are a supervisor, putting her job on the line / formal discipline is probably the most practical way to go about solving this.

  • Is it possible to enable/trick my printer to print without all of the ink cartridges?

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 printer. My yellow ink cartridge is depleted, however, the remaining ink colours still are useable. My printer won't go ahead with printing until the yellow is fixed.

there is a very good reason why you need all the inks. the longer you delay replacing the missing one, the greater the chance you will permanently damage your printer, and a color 1400 is too good a printer to damage. read http://www.ccs-digital.com/inkjetcare.aspIs it possible to enable/trick my printer to print without all of the ink cartridges?

You say ';when you connect to the network your printer is on';. Am I to understand that the network scheme is different to your Internet router network then? (different subnet, default gateway etc?)

If it is different then no wonder your PC can't out to the Internet once you connect to that network.

All the new printers require USB connections and at least 256 MB RAM (mine has 128MB). I can't buy one off the Internet because I don't have a credit card. Get a USB expansion card. They are dirt cheap, and will open up the world of USB to you. Some also have Firewire ports and memory stick / sd card slots on them if you get a front panel type one.

    Enjoy !!
People scrap these printers as they get new computers. If you buy a new Dell computer it does not even have parallel port! I would try FreeCycle for your area.
If you are in the bay area, e-mail me and I can give directions to a place that has reliable used printers.

A lot of Dell products don't have the Mac drivers imbedded in the firmware. Try going to the Dell Support site and downloading the Mac drivers direct from there. Also make sure that OS X is fully updated: Apple released a bunch of printer drivers a couple weeks ago for Snow Leopard.

How can I stop my printer from using colour ink on black and white print outs?

I never ever print out pages with colour, yet my printer manages to eat its way through my colour ink as quickly as it does the black ink. Is there a way to change the settings on my printer? How can I stop my printer from using colour ink on black and white print outs?
The ';budget'; printers use the color inks to make a pseudo black. That may be what is happening in your printer. If you have 4 or more ink cartridges, you should be able to print with just the black. The mono color button is not what you push, there is an option (black only) in your printer menu when you tell your printer to print. How can I stop my printer from using colour ink on black and white print outs?

If it is Windows, start -%26gt; Printers and Faxes, or start -%26gt; settings -%26gt; printers.

Find the printer of interest, right-click on it, select Properties. You'll have to hunt around, but the printer driver may have a box to check to force Grayscale or Monochrome printing. Our Canon printer works that way. If you want color printing for a particular piece, you can always select ';printer setup'; or something similar from the application you're printing from. You can get a one-time color printout that way, then the next time, it will revert back to the default of mono.

If this is an HP printer, what you could do is open the lid while the printer is on, which should make the cartridges come out into view. Remove the color one, close the lid, and the printer will then fall back to the black cartridge, until you can get another color one.
Whatever you do do not press grayscale. This will use colour ink to make different tones of gray. hit print on your computer. Go into finishing options. Select black and white. It should then only use black. If you print off a lot of black and white documents, you may want to consider getting a mono laser printer. These printers are fast but expensive. However, the cartridges last for so much longer than inkjet cartridges
If you go to printer properties and specify black %26amp; white only, it might cut back the color use.

Some printers use color ink when printing black to enhance the contrast. You can check the vendor website, but I doubt you will get acceptable resolution to your problem.
when you press print and the window comes up where you can choose what Printer and such you need to press properties for that printer and there should be a button for black and white only. unfortunately you will have to do this every time you don't want to use color.

you can get it at tigerdirect.com or newegg.comHow do i make my printer work wirelessly?
Best bet doesn't involve the router at all - see if you can config infrared on your portable pc to link to i/r on the printer. Might work ...!
i don't know.. check around some computer sales sites like www.tigerdirect.com i don't see why they couldn't make a bluetooth type of device that plugs into your printer's usb port that will allow communication with the computer or router. They do it with mice.
you cant u would need to get a network printer. or something like

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using鈥?/a> this has the guide on how to network the printer.
You probably wouldn't be able to do that directly, what you might consider is getting a print server. They are boxes usually about the size of a router.

You would hook the printer into the print server and then connect the print server to the router (there may be wireless print servers available). Then you could print to the printer over your wireless network.

Even if the connection to the print server from the router was wired, you still wouldn't need to get up and hook to the printer every time you wanted to print. Just make sure the printer is compatible with the print server.

How do I know that my printer is going to print the same colors on my editing software?

I use Photoshop Elements 6 to edit my photos - when I go to print,, the colors dont always come out as crisp, clear or saturated as I edited. I use a Lexmark ink jet printer. How do I know that my printer is going to print the same colors on my editing software?
Unless you have a professional-grade printer, monitor, and professional calibration tools, you'll never get the same colors as what you see on your monitor.

Remember that your monitor uses light to display colors, and your paper uses ink. The two will never match.

That being said, the ink and paper that you use make a big difference to getting closer to what you see on screen. Be sure to use high-gloss paper that is meant for photos. Use photo ink (the expensive stuff) which is brighter than regular color ink.

If your printer, monitor, and scanner support calibration tools, you can give that a shot. Basically you print a calibration sheet, scan it, and the tool synchronizes things. But most consumer-grade equipment won't have this feature.

I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear... but give the good paper a shot and you'll probably be a lot happier.

Another option is to take your photos to a place like Wal*Mart with their photo printing machines. They're actually pretty good.

    Hope that helps,
