First you check all the cable connect of laptop and printer. turn on your printer. and than add a new hardware device.

You should jsut plug it into your laptop and it should work, if not then if you have a disc put in it and install the program or you can download it online.
Check all of the wires, read the laptop/printer manual. You might want to reboot your laptop as well.
