How do I connect my laptop to a printer via a wireless network?

I have a pc (compaq presario) that is connected to an hp officejet 6110. I want to use that printer to print wirelessly from my HP laptop. I have a modem that is connected to the pc that gives me access to the internet. Do I use the modem somehow to print wirelessly or do I have to setup my printer with a printer adapter that makes it wireless via its usb port? How do I connect my laptop to a printer via a wireless network?
The modem now connects directly to the computer and the computer directly to the printer yes?

This is just an outline. You need a Wifi router. Connect an ethernet wire between the modem the WAN slot on the router. Connect another ethernet wire from a LAN slot on the router to your computer. This should get your wired computer to the internet immediately. If that works follow the user guide to set up the wireless.

From the wired computer set the HP printer to be shared. Once the wifi laptop is connected to the wifi router it should be able to print to the printer.
