basically what i'm saying is how networked printers work. Can a fax come in to your machine and then have the fax be sent to your computer which is also on your same local network. Does anyone know how to do this? Can a fax machine connect to the internet and send it to your computer?
if you have a phone modem, you can send and receive faxes to your computer. there are online services that work through email like efax.comCan a fax machine connect to the internet and send it to your computer?
If you have one of those Printer/Scanners/Faxes, you can scan the fax in, save it on the comptuer and email it anywhere. If it's just a regular fax it won't fax it to your comptuer without special software. You could setup an account with a company like Efax and fax it to you efax number, and download it from the interent, but I think that is a pay service.
Good Luck
The fax interface on many printers connects directly to the printing mechanism, you have to check the software on the computer that interfaces with the printer/fax. The software will tell you if you can manage faxes from the computer.

You can use Joyfax Server to do this. Just install Joyfax Server on your computer, and connect it with a fax modem and a phone line, you can receive all of the faxes on your computer. Moreover, you can forward the faxes to the emial address. By the way, Joyfax Server has its own Virtual Printer and it supports a lot of formats, such as ppt, xls, word, pdf and so on.
I am not sure if the made an innovation that enables a fax machine to have direct connection with internet. I know multi-function devices like all-in-one printers can have LAN, bluetooth and Wifi connections.
But some fax machine models (the latest one) can be interfaced with a PC (via USB, serial or parallel connections) and use the PC as the receiving station for the faxes.
But if you want a real internet enable fax capability then use an internet fax machine service.
